The default list of file extensions that can be uploaded through DNN can be expanded through the "Allowable File Extensions" option in the Host > Host Settings page.

With a clean install of DNN, the default list of file extensions allowed for upload through the CMS are:

  • .swf
  • .jpg
  • .jpeg
  • .jpe
  • .gif
  • .bmp
  • .png
  • .doc
  • .docx
  • .xls
  • .xlsx
  • .ppt
  • .pptx
  • .pdf
  • .txt
  • .xml
  • .xsl
  • .css
  • .zip
  • .template and
  • .csv

To expand on this list of valid extensions - login to the DNN site with a Host account, navigate to the Host > Host Settings page, & towards the bottom of the page within the Other Settings expandable section there is an input box with a comma separated list of "Allowable File Extensions". Into this can be Added further file extensions to be uploaded through the CMS (remember to separate multiple new extensions with a comma).

Updating the Host Settings page will update the framework, and the new files can be uploaded to the site.
